There’s a thin line between praying and thinking of your future spouse and doing it so much that you’re thinking about that more than you’re talking with God. As a person who has also written letters to their future spouse, I find it really helpful to include God in on the conversation. I pray that he keeps preparing my heart for them, because I know that I will meet them when He feels I am ready. The good thing about this is it’s still putting our trust in God, and knowing that his timing is ALWAYS the best timing (although we have a tendency to disagree sometimes), but simultaneously we’re still showing that we care about that person whom God will place in our lives.
